"Musicality" at Studio East
Fridays: 6:00-7:00pm
Description of class: Come dance and play as we delve deeply into the music of Argentine Tango, its history, and its theory. Through games, exercises, and lots of dancing, we will explore the many joys of counterpoint while developing the tools required to express ourselves through music. Emphasis will be placed on technique and any patterns will be given in musical context.
Instructor: Ethan Gutierrez, with 24 years of experience as a musician and 16 as a dancer, has an immense love of contrapuntal music and enjoys few things more than sharing its secrets though Argentine Tango music and dance. Since obtaining his degree from the University of New Mexico in Mathematics and in Dance, Ethan has used his diversity of dance experience, from Ballet, Jazz and Modern, to Ballroom, Flamenco and Tango, to develop superior balance and posture in his students with special care given to injury prevention over the long term. Both leaders and followers will share equal responsibility for expressing their musicality as we build a foundation of techniques for each role with an ultimate goal of freedom to play. A detailed description for each class can be found on the calendar ofwww.dancingfoolstudio.com.

Wednesdays: 7:30-8:30pm
Instructor: Liz Haight
This class is designed for those already comfortable with on-body dancing e.g. those who have either taken some of my level I classes and feel really comfortable with the basics or for those who have already had previous tango experience. This is a popular class, where we work on intermediate level "milonguero" elements. Our main aim is to provide you with fun material that is practical, i.e. "milonga-friendly", as well as work on technique that is both functional and beautiful. There is special focus given to the quality of connection which fosters a relaxed and yummy feel throughout the dance while also offering possibilities for dialog between partners. This is a great place for you to explore your own creativity and musicality in the dance. 6-weeks/$75. Registration required in advance (982-5833). This class is leader/follower balanced. Tango dancers visiting Santa Fe please call if you want to attend while here. Next session beginning March 11th.
