Fundamentals for Social Tango: Our weekly group class!
Tuesdays, 7 - 8:30 pm (for those posting info, we are adding an extra 15 minutes)
This is a fun, relaxed on-going class focusing on all the fundamentals of close-embrace Argentine tango. In these classes you will learn the social form of tango danced in the traditional dance halls of Buenos Aires, otherwise known as Milonguero Style tango. It is characterized by a deep, warm, comfortable embrace and the ability to navigate easily on social dance floors. This is a non-flash style based on a natural walk, focused on improvisation, mutual creativity, and a comfortable connection with your partner. This style is accessible for regular folks of all ages as it has been throughout, and since, the Golden age of tango.
We welcome brand new dancers as well as more experienced students wanting to work with the fundamental technique of close embrace tango: How we develop movement and communicate clearly with our partners; how to best find balance and stability; and, how to create a consistent connection with our partners that allows us to share the joy of the dance. In addition, you will learn figures to use improvisationally that navigate well on the social dance floor. This class will prepare you for dancing in the Milongas (social dance events). Partners not necessary. This is a drop-in class. $25. This class is taught by Liz Haight who has been studying and teaching Milonguero style tango for 23 years. Emma Simmons assists. Upcoming Sunday Workshop: Close Embrace Fundamentals!
Sunday, April 28th, 1-4 pm
This workshop includes 2 - 1 1/4 hr. workshop classes with a tea break in between. This workshop is open to anyone wanting to build fundamental skills in close embrace social tango. We are a core group from our Tuesday class happily welcoming anyone who would like to join us. We will be focusing on the quality of connection with our partners, the embrace, developing clear communication between leaders and followers. We plan to work on simple turns and double-timed figures for navigating on the dance floor. Bob Bern and Emma Simmons will be assisting Liz in this workshop! $65. Private and Semi-private Classes
Liz also teaches private classes. One-on-one work is a nice way to focus in depth on a particular issue or simply a way of accelerating your learning. Liz works with both leaders and followers and couples of all levels. She also works with semi-private groups wanting to work together. Classes are scheduled at flexible times.
